STEAM-Tech Bootcamp Professional Development
“This training was fantastic! My staff were all so excited to tell me about their PD adventures with Einstein By Design. They learned so much, and I can already see the benefit this training will have on our students.”
STEAM isn’t just for big kids anymore. Improving STEM instruction at the early childhood level makes sense on many different levels. When we view STEAM literacy in the context of language development, we see that it makes sense to gain exposure to the language of STEAM as an early learner. This increases the likelihood of gaining fluency.Teachers will learn how to integrate STEAM instruction into existing curriculum by using creative educational techniques as a springboard for learning, and putting science and math into action through the inquiry and engineering design process. In this bootcamp style training session we incorporate hands-on experiences, collaborative problem-solving, and an integrated approach to STEAM, scientific inquiry, and literacy skills. Teaching staff will be coached through these projects, and will go home with materials, lesson plans and access to ongoing curriculum support to enable them to become effective LEADERS in STEAM education.
You will Learn how to make connections with traditional STEM curricula to enhance achievement in standard core competencies by adapting lesson plans with more engaging and creative techniques. You will Explore curricula, resources, and guiding principles of STEAM-Tech education innovation by taking a hands-on approach to achieving defined learning objectives. You will Access open source software resources that allow you to track student progress, manage materials, and receive feedback from other learning facilitators. You will Discover how to get started with programming and physical computing to bring simple and motorized components to life in your classroom through detailed lesson plan guidance. You will Enhance your problem-solving and teamwork skills through a series of design challenges in which you are tasked to build fully functional, interactive projects. Above all, participants will become part of a movement that is set to Revolutionize how students learn and attain 21st century skills. A certificate of completion of 6 hours of professional development training will be provided at the end of each session, along with an Einstein By Design Teacher Tinker Kit. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided at no additional costs throughout the training.
We will focus on the following three workstations in each bootcamp:
*Ball Players to Ballerinas: How to Make Engaging Content to Entice a Diverse Audience of Learners *
*STEAM Rx: Adding in Literacy and Collaboration Objectives to Project-Based Learning Experiences*
*Low-cost and Low-tech Pathways to High-tech Literacy*
In each workstation we will:
Model lessons and learning stations
Review questions to increase challenge and literacy
Use of standards appropriate to the child’s level of readiness
Digital tools to explore coding
Explore low-tech and high-tech materials to inspire innovation, wonder, and problem solving
